Ratalyache / Shakarkand (Sweet Potato) Patties / Tikki
A healthy and tasty mid-evening snack option for all ages! These patties are easy to make, full of flavor, and perfect for tiffin boxes too.

Sweet Potato (Ratale/Shakarkand) | ½ kg |
Onion (finely chopped) | 1 medium |
Red Chili Powder | To taste |
Green Chilies (finely chopped) | 2 (optional) |
Coriander (Kothimbir), finely chopped | ½ cup |
Sesame Seeds (Til) | 2 tbsp |
Coriander-Cumin (Dhana-Jeera) Powder | 1 tbsp |
Turmeric Powder (Halad) | 1 tsp |
Salt | To taste |
Method

Boil the sweet potatoes in a pressure cooker for about 3 whistles.

Allow them to cool, then mash them thoroughly.

Add onion, spices, green chilies (optional), coriander, til, and salt to the mashed sweet potato. Mix well.

Shape the mixture into small round patties (tikkis).

Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry the patties on a low flame until both sides are golden brown (about 10 minutes).
Serving Tips

Serve hot with green chutney or tomato sauce.

For a lunchbox twist:

Take a roti/chapati, spread green chutney on it, place 2–3 patties inside, roll it, and cut it into two pieces — a healthy tikki wrap!
You can add grated beetroot, carrot, boiled sweet corn and boiled peas for extra nutrition.
